Radiation Oncologist

The newly created Department of Radiation Oncology at the
University of Missouri School of Medicine and Ellis Fischel Cancer
Center is accepting applications for an ABR BE/BC Radiation
Oncologist at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level. Academic
rank, compensation and appointment type will be based on
qualifications and experience. Candidates must have demonstrated
ability in teaching and in scholarly productivity. The faculty
appointment will be in the Department of Radiation Oncology. The
candidate will be expected to maintain a clinical practice at
University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia. The position provides
resources, state-of-the-art facilities, and excellent opportunities
for collaboration with investigators in the University of Missouri
in Columbia Medical School. Candidates will have the opportunity to
mentor and teach trainees and students. Academic time will be used
to pursue scholarly work in the candidate's area of
specialty/research experience with a goal of developing
collaborative or independent, externally funded research. Faculty
will be active in their national organizations and foster an
academic environment.
Currently, the department treats more than 600 new patients (both
adult and pediatric). Candidates are being recruited to engage in
clinical, research, teaching, and administrative activities. The
Department is anticipating a rapid growth due to recently
established neurosurgery department and the expansion of
oncological services through Ellis Fischel Cancer Center . The
successful candidate will possess strong clinical and interpersonal
skills, provide excellent clinical care in collaboration with
disease specific oncology teams, participate in multidisciplinary
tumor boards and clinics, and perform research with mentorship by
senior faculty as appropriate. Career development, especially for
early/mid-career faculty, will be a priority. For qualified
candidates, leadership opportunities which support the clinical,
research and educational missions will be available.
Minimum Qualifications:
Our Ellis Fischel Cancer Center (EFCC) offers opportunities for the
radiation oncology faculty to engage in clinical trials sponsored
by the Alliance Co-operative Oncology Group and NCI Cancer Trials
Support Unit to include NRG trials. In addition, the EFCC Clinical
Trials Office also supports investigator initiated and pharma
sponsored clinical trials. We also offer collaboration
opportunities with Siteman Cancer Center to engage in clinical
trials, receive mentorship, conduct joint research projects,
publications, and/or submit grants.
Looking to the future, we are making a huge investment in medical
research. The NextGen Precision Health Institute is a $220 million,
265,000-square-foot research facility that is a hub where
scientists and clinicians collaborate, and supports a Clinical and
Translational Science Unit that also facilitates clinical trials.
The facility is equipped for every step of the translational
research process and houses a MAGNETOM Terra 7 Tesla (7T) MRI
scanner, the first of its kind in Missouri. The University of
Missouri has unparalleled infrastructure and basic science faculty
collaborators to develop the next generation of
radiopharmaceuticals for imaging and therapy. With the largest
University research reactor in the US ( MURR ) producing
Iodine-131, Lutetium-177 and the new wave of beta emitting
radionuclides and new infrastructure for pre-clinical and human
imaging.
The department is equipped with a newly installed Varian Ethos with
the capability of adaptive radiotherapy and a Varian TrueBeam with
capability of SRS and SBRT. We also have an active brachytherapy
program.
